Calcium Intake Checker
Menopause changes the number: bone loss accelerates when estrogen drops, and the target moves from 1,000 to 1,200 mg a day. Age and cycle status in, your target out — plus the per-serving table and the absorption rules that decide how much of it you actually keep.

Common questions
How much calcium do I need after menopause?
1,200 mg a day — the standard for women past menopause (Endocrine Society, NAMS, BHOF agree), versus 1,000 mg before. The upper limit is 2,000-2,500 mg from all sources combined; more isn't better for kidneys or hearts.
Do supplements count?
Yes, but split them: the body absorbs about 500-600 mg at a time, so one 1,200 mg tablet mostly becomes expensive urine. Food first, and pair it with vitamin D — no D, much less absorption.
What about spinach? It's high in calcium.
It's high in calcium and high in oxalate, which blocks most of that calcium. Dairy, tofu set with calcium, and fortified drinks deliver; leafy greens vary — kale gives up its calcium, spinach mostly doesn't.
Method
Targets follow the National Academies RDAs (1,000 mg adults 19-50; 1,200 mg women 51+ and men 71+) with menopause status allowed to move a woman up early, matching NAMS/Endocrine Society guidance. Upper limit 2,000-2,500 mg. Absorption notes: ~500-600 mg per sitting; vitamin D dependent; oxalate blocks spinach's calcium. Bone density itself is a DEXA question — a calculator can't see your bones.
